FUT Squad Building Guide: Chemistry, Links & Budget Squads

Building a competitive FUT squad is about more than just buying the best players. Chemistry, links, formation compatibility and budget management all play a role. This guide covers the fundamentals of squad building in EA FC 25.

Understanding Chemistry

Chemistry determines how well your players perform together. In EA FC 25, chemistry is based on three factors:

**Nation Links** Players from the same country get a chemistry boost regardless of their league or club. This is the easiest way to build chemistry, especially on a budget.

**League Links** Players in the same league link well together. Building a single-league squad is one of the simplest ways to hit full chemistry.

**Club Links** Players from the same club provide the strongest chemistry links. Useful for filling specific positions without breaking chemistry.

Budget Squad Building

**Starting Out** When you first open FUT, resist the urge to spend everything immediately. Play Squad Battles and Rivals to earn coins, then build a solid starter squad from one league with good chemistry.

**Best Value Leagues** - Premier League: Wide range of usable cards at every price point - La Liga: Strong midfielders and attackers at budget prices - Serie A: Excellent defenders and goalkeepers for cheap - Bundesliga: Pace-heavy options across all positions - Ligue 1: Hidden gems with excellent stats

**When to Buy** Player prices fluctuate based on promos, time of day, and day of the week. Prices tend to drop on Thursday evenings (new TOTW release) and during promo events. Buy during crashes and sell during hype.

Formation Selection

Your formation should match your playstyle and the players you own. There is no single best formation.

**4-4-2 Flat** Balanced and easy to use. Good for beginners. Two strikers combine well and the midfield covers ground. Lacks a dedicated creative midfielder.

**4-2-3-1** Dominant in competitive FUT. The two CDMs provide defensive cover while the CAM creates chances. Wide players can cut inside or provide crosses.

**4-3-2-1** Excellent for fast counter-attacks. The three forwards stay high and the midfield three covers space. Requires good wing play from your forwards.

**4-1-2-1-2 Narrow** Central and direct. The two strikers and CAM overload the middle of the pitch. Vulnerable on the wings but dominant through the centre.

Hybrid Squads

Hybrid squads use players from multiple leagues and nations. The key is finding positions where chemistry links overlap.

**Common Hybrid Strategies** - Same nation across leagues (e.g. French players from Ligue 1 and Premier League) - Strong links from same club plus nation - Use icons or heroes as chemistry bridges (they link to everyone in their league and nation)

Position Modifiers

Position modifiers can unlock chemistry that would otherwise be impossible. A RM converted to RW or a CAM moved to CM can complete links that seemed broken. Always check if a position change solves your chemistry problem before buying a new player.
